ABOUT KRONION, KLADEOS AND THE SURROUNDING AREA OF THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE

When referring to the Archaeological site of Olympia we don’t only mean the fenced archaeological site but all the natural surrounding environment due to which the first sanctum was created (the sanctity of this place was acknowledged at the rivers of Olympia: Alpheus and Kladeos and at the hill of Kronion). Consequently, Olympia was not «saved», but burnt. Desperate and improvised moves, without historical and scientific background, will expose to danger the historical scenery as well as the tourism of Olympia that preserves the local community (not to refer to the ridicule).

OUR AIMS:
Whatever the intervention is must result from the guidance and the co-operation with those who have studied the site as natural and cultural place, and they will not necessarily be those who administer it and those who rushed to claim that they saved it. Not allow the protection of Kronion, Kladeos and the surrounding area from the «experts – in charge» who, probably, will rush to reforest with the kinds of their choice that possibly have in their gardens too.

ABOUT KAIAFA

The ecosystem of Kaiafa (mountain, lake, pine-trees, sea) used to constitute one of the most wonderful sceneries of Peloponnese. Parallel to this, it used to constitute an important aquatic place too.

The old facilities served the mineral water springs in that way in order not to disturb the natural scenery (mild activity).

Free campers were giving life to the forest, they took good care of it daily and they ensured its protection. They were in danger with it, as well.

OUR AIMS:

1. To be declared again as a place of infinite natural beauty.
2. Not to spoil the ecosystem of Kaiafa by any intervention of not indigenous kinds (palm-trees, lawn..)
3. Not to allow «investors» to exploit touristically (spa, resorts) the area at the expense of the natural scenery, the local economy and tourism.
4. To control the mapping out of the Ionian Road and the adjoining uses along the forest of Kaiafa (e.g. fastfoods, gas stations, etc.).
